Areas of Specialty

Step-Families & Step-Parenting

All families experience certain shared dynamics, but blended, or step-families, face a unique range of issues that many people may not be aware of. Consciously or subconsciously, people often expect blended families to function like first-time families.

Couples & Marriage Therapy

Human beings are intrinsically “wired” to connect with others. When we are in a romantic, committed relationship, what happens with one person affects the other person. Positive and supportive relationships enhance our sense of well-being, while conflict and difficulties in a relationship can feel anxiety-provoking and distressing.

Child & Adolescent Therapy

We take it seriously when we notice emotional or behavioral concerns in our children. Or, perhaps our child or teen is going through a significant life event or a new developmental stage, and we just want to make sure that they have the support they need to move through it.

Differences Between Step-Families and First-Time Families

While every family has its own unique set of circumstances, step-families have additional complications that first-time families do not. Step-families are families where one or both members of the adult couple already have children, usually from a previous relationship. First-time families are typically ones in which the adult couple has the experience of becoming parents and establishing a family for the first time.
